After 11 years as a well-known sports bar and pool hall, as well as a concert, comedy and wrestling venue, the SETS has again changed hands.
Original owner Harry Hekmatian, well known in the community for his involvement and generosity, has sold the SETS to a young visionary entrepreneur.
David Clark, a 26-year-old investor from Denver, is taking over the SETS, located on the southeast corner of Southern and Mill Avenue. The name will stay, but the improvements and changes he has planned will not detract from the bar’s rich history and clientele.

Construction is underway at one of Tempe’s most familiar intersections. In April, crews began site work at the southwest corner of Baseline and Rural, formerly owned by the Earnhardt family, automotive giants in the Valley since 1951. Kitchell Development purchased the site in 2007 and has begun construction of Lakes Towne Center, a new retail development.
The 16-acre parcel is familiar to Valley residents as both the site of the first Earnhardt dealership, Earnhardt Ford, and one of the busier intersections in the southeast Valley, due in large part to its accessibility to Interstate 10 and the U.S. 60. Located in a well-established Tempe area with a high population density and average family incomes upward of $60,000, the new Lakes Towne Center project promises to bring new shopping and dining venues to nearby neighborhoods.
