It is that time of year again when the sun in Arizona becomes increasingly intense. The long, hot days of summer have hit the Valley. Here are some simple ABCs of sun awareness.
A—Away. Stay away from the sun especially during peak hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. B—Block. Start a sunscreen smear campaign to provide protection by using sunscreen or sun block with SPF of 15 or more. Use liberally and often. C—Check up. Any suspicious skin growth on the head, face, neck or exposed body part should be checked by a physician.
The City of Tempe Kiwanis Recreation Center has been awarded a grant from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) for the promotion of the QuickStart Program. The grant will go to helping youth learn tennis.
QuickStart Tennis is gaining nationwide use as an exciting new play format to learn the game of tennis. t is designed to bring kids under the age of 10 into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions, and modified scoring. The program takes age and size into account as well.
Lucy Morgan, 17, of Tempe participated in Barrow’s 12th annual Day on the Lake. Despite the disability challenges Morgan faces, she braved the water at Bartlett Lake and enjoyed the recreation, which included water skiing, jet skiing, fishing, kayaking and boat rides.
