DTC changes name, not focus

On June 5, the Tempe City Council approved the renewal of the Mill Avenue enhanced multiple services district, known as Downtown Tempe Community, Inc. (DTC).

The DTC has managed the Mill Avenue District since January of 1994 with a mission of ensuring the vitality and excellence of the urban experience in downtown Tempe. The organization focuses on such issues as public safety, district aesthetics, marketing, events, transportation, membership services, economic development, and design.

Local graphic designer rebrands Chase Field

Shad Bruce launched Tempe-based Detail Design & Fabrication (DD&F) 10 years ago to meet the specialty graphics and fabrication needs of architects, retailers and developers.

One of the firm’s most exciting benchmarks came in 2007 when DD&F was named official sign and graphics partner for the Arizona Diamondbacks (also celebrating its 10th anniversary this spring). That same year, when the team switched its colors and logo, DD&F stepped up to the plate to makeover the massive Chase Field ballpark.

Casa Decor is back in the Tempe community after a six-year absence. Its new store in the Emerald Design Center next to IKEA is loaded with the largest selection of Santa Fe and rustic furniture in the southeast Valley.

    Owner Dennis Stephens has specially selected furniture, art and decor, as well as hundreds of accessories, for the home or office. New merchandise arrives weekly at Casa Decor, located at 1746 W. Ruby.

Sun Savvy: know ABCs of sun care

It is that time of year again when the sun in Arizona becomes increasingly intense. The long, hot days of summer have hit the Valley. Here are some simple ABCs of sun awareness.

A—Away. Stay away from the sun especially during peak hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
B—Block. Start a sunscreen smear campaign to provide protection by using sunscreen or sun block with SPF of 15 or more. Use liberally and often.
C—Check up. Any suspicious skin growth on the head, face, neck or exposed body part should be checked by a physician.
