Bike-a-Palooza offers fun, safety

As part of its Tempe Bike Month celebration, the city of Tempe will host a Bike-a-Palooza from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, at Kiwanis Park, 6111 S. All-America Way.

Free activities include a bike rodeo, helmet fittings and giveaways, bike tune-ups, bike safety information and bike-on-bus demonstrations.

There also will be a community bike ride, with free T-shirts for the first 300 riders who register beginning at 7 a.m. The bike ride takes off at 8 a.m. and will be approximately 10-12 miles.

In addition to the city-sponsored events, the Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the cycling atmosphere in Arizona, is hosting a Bicycle Swap Meet at Kiwanis Park. This huge bike garage sale will have great deals on new and used bikes and related goods for all members of the family.

The swap meet is free to buyers and private sellers. Commercial sellers will need to purchase a Tempe Special Events Privilege (sales) & Use Tax License in order to participate.

For more information on the Swap Meet, visit www.cazbike.org. For more information about Tempe Bike Month activities, visit www.tempe.gov/tim.
