In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Tempe Chamber of Commerce announces the release of “Centenni-ale,” a specialty beer produced to honor the occasion. The beer was crafted by Tempe’s award-winning Four Peaks Brewing Company and is based on the brewery’s well-known 8th Street Ale. The 11-year-old brewery, located at 1340 E. 8th St., is Arizona’s largest, producing nearly 34,000 kegs each year.

The specially created “Centenni-ale” is a classic English-style Draught Ale, the style most preferred a century ago. The beer is a nicely malted copper-colored ale boasting a balanced dual-hop blend to release its characteristic smooth taste. Karen S. Windsor-Worrel of KWW Design has created the label for the beer; she is the regular label designer for the brewery. Worrel based her design on a black-and-white photo of the Pacific Creamery, taken circa 1910. Now operating in what once was the creamery’s home, the brewery prominently displays the photo along with a plaque detailing the history of the creamery. Chamber members feel the imagery is appropriate, given that the origins of the Tempe Chamber were started in 1908. The Centenni-ale began its first bottling run on Feb. 20 at Four Peaks, after chamber officials and volunteer members hand-affixed the custom labels to several cases of bottles. “We wanted to celebrate this historic occasion in a unique and different way; we didn’t want to hold just another event,” explained Renée Lopata, senior vice president of the Tempe Chamber. “Tempe is a fun and vibrant place, and we Chamber people are pretty fun, too. This beer really captures that spirit.” Named by Tempe Chamber Ambassador Malia Griffin, the “Centenni-ale” will be avialable on draft at Four Peaks Brewery through the remainder of the year. In addition, this signature brew will be served at upcoming chamber special events and fundraisers, and used as gifts and promotions for the Chamber. “We’re thrilled to be able to use this beer to toast the Chamber’s successes over the past century and those to come in the next hundred years,” said Sean Donovan, Communications director at the Tempe Chamber. |
