The Goddess Garden World Dance Studio recently opened its doors offering classes in dance, fitness and wellness. The quaint Phoenix studio is located at 4215 North 16th Street in Suite 12. One could think of The Goddess Garden as a place to seek respite from hectic daily life. Walk through the doors feeling drab and tired and emerge energized, and with a quieter mind. “We try to help you find grace, confidence, wellness and joy through dance and fitness,” says owner, K-Lee Gilligan, who has performed shows utizing her students in Tempe and Downtown Phoenix.
“Above all else, we aim to have fun and live more fit lives. Our friendly instructors will help you find an enjoyable path to feeling better. We do not want to hear the words "I can't." Rather, we love to hear "I will try." as we strongly believe each of us should try every day, to be just a bit better.” So far, classes offered are primarily bellydance related since the owner is a bellydancer herself. She directs two valley troupes, NATIUM World Dance and Diabolique Unconventional Entertainment. Her immediate plans are to add warm, energetic instructors who are trained to teach a variety of fitness related classes as well such as Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Dance Aerobics and more. Additionally, K-Lee plans to add mind-quieting services such as meditation, reiki, and hypnotherapy by professionals in those areas. “For now, I am scrambling to put the place together for my students who have all recently transferred over from studios where I taught prior to gaining my own space. It all happened very fast so we are just rolling along week by week, building our little nest branch by branch. So far the transferring students have had nothing but great things to say about our new home.” K-Lee currently offers Try it Before You Buy It deals for her own classes in April and May to reel in students who have thus far been a bit shy about attempting bellydance. These classes are by prior reservation which can be made by visiting the website or emaling kahleabellydancer@gmail.com . “There exist many misconceptions about what bellydance is. Some fear it is like stripping or something that in order to participate you should wear revealing garments and be ready to gyrate and grind. That is not the case at all! Bellydance is a very feminine dance and it is a respected dance. It is pretty, graceful, and mesmerizing. It isn’t erotic or sexual in nature. Women of all shapes and sizes participate. I have taught a group of Red Hat Society seniors where the eldest was 82 years of age- I have seen women over 300 pounds start out in class and slowly but surely whittle down to smaller sizes. We offer classes for the novice, for those who just want to move the body to get fit as well as classes for those wishing for performance opportunities. The Goddess Garden is your shelter and a place to take a small vacation, just for you,” K-Lee says proudly of her new space. The Goddess Garden also welcomes men to take classes, but doesn’t currently offer classes for children. The studio is for adults only at this time. The studio is a comfortable, brightly colored space with large mirrors and a kind staff. Upon entering you will feel as if you have arrived in an exotic, foreign destination when you see the decor and the beautiful items for sale. Feel free to shop for dance costumes and accessories or take classes from our trained staff. You might even just drop in to visit and say hello.
