City to hold public meeting on light rail planning
The City of Tempe will hold a public meeting to discuss planning around future light rail stations on Apache Boulevard from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20 at the Tempe Police Substation, 1855 E. Apache Blvd. At previous public meetings, residents and representatives from local businesses and community organizations provided input about the type of development they would like to see around the stations. That feedback was incorporated in a final report, which will be presented at the meeting. The report includes station area plans for the four METRO light rail stations on Apache Boulevard in Tempe and will guide the city in planning for public and private investment in these areas. The report addresses a number of issues identified through the station area planning process, including providing affordable housing, retaining local businesses, using development concepts that support transit and improving the environment for pedestrians. The meeting will be an open house with a brief presentation at 6:30PM. Participants will be able to talk with city staff and project consultants, and can provide input on comment cards.
