Developments move forward in Tempe

In these economic times, Tempe continues to thrive. Onyx Tower is one of five Tempe projects that have passed major milestones in this market in just the last few months.

The 26-story luxury condominium tower on Tempe Town Lake opened its sales office on May 22, across the street from where the Onyx project is being constructed.

Currently planned as the tallest building on the lake, Onyx Tower is situated on the north shore of Tempe Town Lake. The one- to three-bedroom floor plans range from 711 square feet to 2,364 square feet; prices start in the low $300,000s and range to more than over $2 million for the penthouse units.

Visitors to the sales office can view an innovative virtual tour that showcases each room and balcony views in all available floor plans. A model displaying appliances, materials and other standard/upgrade features of an Onyx Tower unit also is available for viewing at the sales center.

The project is scheduled to break ground late this year.

Adolfson & Peterson Construction (A&P) has begun construction of the Campus Suites on the Rail student housing development in Tempe. The 5-story, 299-unit structure that broke ground on March 27 is the latest development to be positioned along the light rail near the Arizona State University campus.

The Campus Suites on the Rail development will be over 730,000 square feet when completed.  The 299-unit student housing complex will cover approximately 7.5 acres along Apache Drive and house more than 950 individual bedrooms. Other project components include a 10,000 square foot clubhouse and over 14,000 square feet of ground-level retail.

The project was designed by Scottsdale-based L.R. Niemiec Architects, and is being constructed by Tempe-based A & P. The project is being developed by Campus Suites, LLC.  The Florida-based developer specializes in housing developments near college campuses.

Other developments continue to move forward. South Bank, a 3.6 million-square-foot development, broke ground in early May. Avenue Communities submitted its Hayden Flour Mill construction plans in April. Gray Development broke ground on Equinox, Tempe’s first residential project directly on the light rail line in April as well.

Also, Tempe Marketplace Phase 2 began remediation efforts to restore the ground that was once a Super Fund site so it can build a major office park.
