After 11 years as a well-known sports bar and pool hall, as well as a concert, comedy and wrestling venue, the SETS has again changed hands. Original owner Harry Hekmatian, well known in the community for his involvement and generosity, has sold the SETS to a young visionary entrepreneur. David Clark, a 26-year-old investor from Denver, is taking over the SETS, located on the southeast corner of Southern and Mill Avenue. The name will stay, but the improvements and changes he has planned will not detract from the bar’s rich history and clientele. ![]() David Clark, new owner of The SETS in Tempe (submitted photo) “I want the bar to have a sports feel, offering Happy Hour food and very special drink deals,” says Clark. “We will beef up the cable sports packages on several new, giant plasma screens we recently installed in the main bar area.” Clark says his goal is to bring improvements to the SETS that will make it the neighborhood bar everyone once knew as Pinky’s. Future plans also include expanding the food menu. Improvements to the concert venue room are underway, and plans are in place to bring national performers, including bands, comedians and professional exhibition sports. The SETS is located at 93 E. Southern Ave. For more information, call 480-829-1822 or visit www.thesets.com.
