Hackett House reopens for fall
Tempe’s first bakery, built in 1888, is today the center of the many activities of the Tempe Sister City volunteers. Now known as Hackett House, named for early residents of the old bakery, it will reopen for its 23rd season on Monday, Sept. 18.
There is a gift shop, an international program for children entitled “Passport to the World,” cooking classes for adults and children, and the ever-popular tea parties. Tempe’s sixth grade students are invited to participate in special field trips, which begin in January.
Hackett House is staffed entirely by volunteers and anyone interested in helping is invited to complimentary brunch on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m.
Located just one block west of Mill Avenue on Fourth Street, Hackett House will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Free freshly baked homemade scones and tea will be offered along with a 10 percent shop discount on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All Hackett House events require prepaid advance reservations; call 480-350-8181.
