Writing workshop plots out murder

Tempe Public Library, 3500 S. Rural Road, hosts a “How to Commit Murder Mystery” writing workshop with Donis Casey, 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, in the Connections Program Room.

All you sleuth enthusiasts out there, now is your chance to get your pen moving. For anyone who has wanted to start writing but doesn't know where to begin, now is your chance. For those that have been writing, here's a chance to get tips and tricks of the trade. Bring your enthusiasm to this free Saturday morning workshop.

Special event for ‘The Big Read’

The West Valley Arts Council has invited the Tempe Public Library to participate in the valleywide (and nation-wide) Big Read.

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The NEA presents The Big Read in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest.

The Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment.

Tempe Public Library events include a book discussion of Dashiell Hammett’s “The Maltese Falcon,” 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the Connections Café Program Room. Join other enthusiastic readers in a discussion of this classic read and chosen title for the 2008 Big Read. Each participant will receive a free copy of the book.

Registration for this Event is tequired. Call Tracy Hokaj at 480-350-5507. Once you have registered for this event you may pick up your book at the Adult Reference desk.
