The Tempe Historical Society announces its 2008-09 Lunch Talks beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 8. The program this year will be very different. First, because of the remodeling of the Tempe Historical Museum, the programs will be at a different location—the Library Program Room on the lower level of the Tempe Library, 3500 S. Rural Road.
Second, because of the support of the Arizona Humanities Council, the programs will all be "Chautauqua" presentations: A slightly different approach bringing to life the character of the individual and events being presented. However, as always the programs are free and open to the public and the Tempe Historical society will provide coffee and light refreshments; you are welcome to bring your own lunch. The Oct. 8 presentation is by Don Garate, historian at the Tumacácori National Historic Park on Juan Bautista de Anza (1736-1788). This is a vivid presentation of the life and times of Juan Bautista de Anza and his overland trek to establish the town of Yerba Buena, present-day San Francisco, Calif.
